Oprah: Gratitude Journal as Happiness Hack

Oprah Winfrey has long been a proponent of gratitude as “the ultimate spiritual solution”, crediting the lesson to her mentor, poet Maya Angelou, to be grateful no matter what. Oprah explains:

Gratitude can transform any situation. It alters your vibration, moving you from negative energy to positive. It’s the quickest, easiest, most powerful way to effect change in your life.

Oprah has gone as far as to say that keeping a written gratitude journal has been the single most important thing she has ever done.

When you wake up in the morning and you consciously look for things to be thankful for… you are more alive and receptive to the goodness that comes in your life.

In this lifeclass, Oprah polls her power posse on their definitions of gratitude. According to Tony Robbins, gratitude works as an antidote to fear and anger, the two emotions that hold us back.

Fear is why we don’t take action and anger is why we get stuck. You can’t be grateful and angry simultaneously. You can’t be fearful and be grateful simultaneously. So it’s really the reset button.
