Beats & Rhymes: Animation of Hughes’ ‘I Dream a World’

  • This Google Doodle charmingly animates the text of the late American jazz poet Langston Hughes’ inspirational poem I Dream a World.

The images were inspired by 1930s-40s jazz album covers, and the music features a pianist and the Boston Typewriter Orchestra ‘playing’ manual typewriters (which have officially made the endangered sounds list…)

Hughes’ words are just as timely today as they were during the civil rights movement:

I dream a world… where man
No other man will scorn,
Where love will bless the earth
And peace its paths adorn…

Let’s hope we see Hughes’ dream become a reality.
